Eight Gabelli students to present research nationally

Congratulations to the eight Gabelli students — four times as many as last year! — who have been invited to present their original business research at the 2012 National Conference on Undergraduate Research. These students’ projects were chosen from a field of 3,190 submissions.

Last year was Gabelli’s first foray into this conference, which launched in 1987 to promote undergraduate research, scholarship and creativity across all academic fields. In 2011, one Gabelli team of two students was picked to attend and make a presentation. But as the school intensifies its focus on research, and encourages more students to take on new investigations into business topics, our presence there is clearly on the rise.

The eight students who will participate in this year’s conference will travel to host institution Weber State University in Ogden, Utah, from March 29 through 31. They are:

Honors Thesis Program students (working individually):

Matthew Collins – SPACs and their Acquisitions: Factors in Alternative Access to the Public Markets
Bryan Matis – Do Shareholders Penalize Bank Boards and Management for the Financial Crisis?

Global Business Honors Program students (working individually or in teams of two):

Caitlin Byrnes and Jessica Castano – The Effect of Self-Construal on Purchasing Patterns and Attention to Product Detail
Delaney Leighton and Chelsea Carges – Socially Responsible Investing: A Classification and Market Analysis
Sean Pinckney – Economic and Regulatory Factors & Corporate Frauds in the United States
Yujin Ye – The Impact of Globalization on U.S. Private Equity Performance

“These wonderful accomplishments are due to the students’ hard work,” said Brian Dunn, Gabelli’s director of honors opportunities, “as well as to the great support provided by the senior Honors Thesis Program’s faculty coordinators — professors Marcia Flicker and Steve Raymar — and by the students’ individual faculty research advisors: professors Sris Chatterjee, Chiddi Chidambaran, Kevin Mirabile, Steve Raymar, Yusif Simaan and Beth Vallen.”
