Gabelli School of Business Launches Two Online Master’s Degrees

Announcements Gabelli100 | Oct 09, 2019 |

On any given day, most university students start working on assignments by either studying in an on-campus library or at home, diving right into the subject matter at hand.

Students who participate in distance learning have been doing so from their laptops anywhere in the world.

And now, those who want to earn a Fordham Gabelli School of Business degree but don’t necessarily live in New York or the tri-state area have several new online options. Two online Master of Science degrees introduced this fall marked the launch of the Gabelli School’s presence in an exciting, virtual space.

Nearly 70 students are enrolled between both programs, with a third online MS program launching in fall 2020.

The MS in Management and MS in Strategic Marketing Communications programs provide distance learning options to equip the next generation of business leaders with the tools they need for success in the new digital landscape.

These online degrees allow the Gabelli School to extend its brand and values to others beyond its reach. By connecting distance learning students to faculty experts and New York City business leaders, students receive the same dedication to quality business education they would receive if they were physically on campus, but in an online format.

“Our online Master of Science programs in Management and Strategic Marketing Communications combine asynchronous and synchronous/live sessions, which allows students to engage in a virtual classroom,” said Kerri Mizrahi, Ed.D., Gabelli School of Business director of online learning. “The Jesuit tradition and values are also underpinning these online programs. The tradition of care for the whole person and concept of ‘business with purpose’ are woven into the online courses, residency experience, and community building opportunities.”

The online MS in Management program, led by Faculty Program Director Christine Janssen, Ph.D., is built around the idea that purpose is just as important as profit. The program teaches students meaningful and innovative management solutions while giving them a holistic view of business principles. The online curriculum gives students a comprehensive understanding of how businesses serve their customers, employees, and society.

The Gabelli School’s MS in Strategic Marketing Communications program, led by Faculty Program Director Timothy Malefyt, Ph.D., prepares students for connecting with savvier consumers who seek product experiences that are relevant to their identities. Students learn to strategically align the latest in marketing and media communications efforts to build meaningful and lasting consumer relationships. The curriculum prepared them by incorporating real-world cases and situations that mirror the business challenges organizations encounter every day.

These online programs provide current and future business professionals strategies they can use to improve their organizations or move upward into a new role. All program participants receive a WeWork membership, and online students also have the same campus access and opportunities as all Gabelli School students. Additionally, they are welcome to come to campus to use the library, meet with faculty, and attend events. The Gabelli School also engages students in webinars and provides digital resources. Each program has a three-day residency requirement, and students will visit campus as part of their residency experience.

The concept of distance learning is not new to Fordham or the Gabelli School. Faculty and staff members Hooman Estelami and Zixin Mao, among others, have set the stage for these distance learning programs with their online and hybrid course offerings. The launch of the online MS programs is just the beginning of quality, yet flexible, learning opportunities for Fordham business students.

“The Gabelli School has been offering online coursework for some time, thanks to the incredible work of Professor Estelami and faculty,” said Mizrahi. “As we go on, we will continue building a strong program that reflects the quality education students receive across all degrees offered by the Gabelli School.”
