Featured Events | Jun 14, 2024 |

The leveraged credit market is currently valued at over $4 trillion and is one of the fastest-growing asset classes, fueling demand for well-trained credit analysts. Michael Gatto’s latest book, The Credit Investor’s Handbook: Leveraged Loans, High Yield Bonds and Distressed Debt, is the definitive guide for young investment professionals embarking on a career investing in the leveraged credit markets—whether public, private, performing or distressed. During this Financial Issues Forum virtual event, which was hosted by the Gabelli School of Business Gabelli Center for Global Security Analysis, the Museum of American Finance, and the CFA Society New York, Gatto who has 25 years of investing experience in the debt markets at Silver Point Capital (a $20 billion credit-focused fund) and Goldman Sachs’ Special Situations Group, was interviewed by Paul Johnson, the executive director of the Gabelli Center for Global Security Analysis. They discussed Gatto’s approach that breaks down analyzing making a loan to a company into seven large steps, and how each step is executed. The book, as Gatto explains, provides examples and allows the reader to do it on their own based upon information provided for a real company. The pair also discussed the lack of courses at the college level in the credit space and how Gatto and the Gabelli School of Business O’Shea Center for Credit Analysis and Investing are shedding new light on the topic and are developing course that will serve to train the next generation of credit professionals.
